How does Cortisol affect weight loss?

Cortisol is the body's energy production hormone. It gives you your 'get up and go'.

For many people, it's got up and gone...!

Here's a simple explanation of how it works.

The graphic below shows that Cortisol should rise to a peak around 6-9 am every morning and stay low throughout the day, especially in the evening.

This allows the sleep hormone to start increasing at 5pm until a peak at midnight.

You may think "Ok, so what..."

The point is that if your Cortisol hormone isn't aligned properly (this is known as flat-low) then your energy may be low and you'll struggle to burn fat (the blue line of the graphic)

Your HPA Axis number will be 2.5 and below.

Also what can happen is that it peaks in the early morning (1-3am) - (the red line) known as flat-high.

This can cause you to be burnt out. This is where your number is 2.5 - 3.5.

The ideal setting is called Circadian and is 3.6 and above.

What do you about it?

  1. Get out into the early morning and experience the benefits of blue sky hitting your eye cells . This is proven to stimulate Cortisl at the right time.

  2. Start doing HiiT training 6-9 am

  3. Don't do excessive cardio after midday.
